Where we started and Where we are going!

I am really excited to be able to introduce you all to I AM SUPER capes and let you all know what we are about, why we are doing what we are doing and how you can help.

It all started following the devastating typhoon, Haiyan, that hit the Philippines in November 2013, myself along with a very dear friend (who is originally from the Philippines) began a collection to send over to the people of the Philippines.
We sent out requests via all our contacts and we were completely overwhelmed by the response and the help that we received. We filled in excess of 350 boxes, filled with medical supplies, clothing, baby goods, blankets, tents, etc.
We were lucky to have coverage on BBC South Today and well as interviews on BBC Radio Solent and a mention in the Hampshire Chronicle.
The boxes were sent out via the charity Mercy In Action UK, http://www.mercyinaction.org.uk/, which are based in Bath and work closely with the children and people of Cebu. Having chatted with the Directors of the charity we felt they were the ones to work with as we could have constant updates on where all the
donations went, in turn allowing us to update all those who sent donations to us.

I first got the inspiration from a lady in Seattle, USA who makes superhero capes and sends them to children who are ill in hospital. I am not ashamed to admit I got very teary-eyed and inspired reading what she does and how it transforms these little fighters, have a look here at what she does http://tinysuperheroes.com/

So that is where I Am Super Capes was born. As our first mission, I wanted to make superhero capes to send to the children in the Philippines. Something to relight their imagination, something that is just for them, that is bright, captivating and as my 7-year-old said, something to give them the power to be children.

How you can help: simple really, join us on one of our sewing days to sew up some capes, donate fabric or make a cape and post it to me to add to our collection to send to children in the UK and around the world. But our journey won't end there, drawing on the inspiration Tiny Superheros I am also wanting to send capes to children that are ill, that are fighting, that need just that bit of POWER to help them get through.  I want to give children the POWER to be children x
